Bristol-based producer and creative indie powerhouse She Makes War has released her new single, ‘London Bites’, the second instalment of the double A-side single ‘Undone \ London Bites’, which is available now on vinyl effect cd, and taken from the forthcoming album Brace For Impact, out October 5th.
Opening with beautifully unnerving, ethereal vocals, ‘London Bites’ is a brooding blend of melodic discord and cautionary lyrical wisdom, building into a chorus imbued with catharsis.
“This is about moving to the big city when I was a hopeful, naive 18 year old, and finding that the people I knew were worse than the people I didn’t”, She Makes War mastermind Laura Kidd explains. “My first boyfriend told me I couldn’t – and shouldn’t – sing, which dented my confidence for years. The lyrics are a list of wise survival tips for my younger self.”
The track follows the release of ‘Undone’, the first installment of this double A-side – an outpouring of palpable rage at the bad things that happen to good people, and an openhearted rallying cry against the British stiff upper lip brigade – and the previous single, ‘Devastate Me’, an unrestrained commentary on the impact of our collective online presence on our lives.
She Makes War has built a strong live following, having played over 600 shows in the UK and Europe and receiving extensive online acclaim plus support from BBC 6 Music. Her last album Direction Of Travel earned plays from Steve Lamacq, Tom Robinson, Chris Hawkins, Lauren Laverne and Gideon Coe, as well as John Kennedy at Radio X and Alex Baker at Kerrang.
A fiercely devoted, independent DIY force, She Makes War has crafted her success from a close relationship with fans, placing importance on her music’s physical form and an emphasis on the live experience.
Equally at home playing heartbreaking pin-drop solo sets and fronting her explosive five piece band, she brings the experience back to its core by constantly finding new ways of communicating songs to people, striving to make art a part of the fabric of everyday life.
She Makes War will be heading out on a headline tour in October with her full band. Tickets are available from www.shemakeswar.com and the full list of dates can be found below.
