It's This Charming Man's release No. 100! Four songs from the sessions for the 2017 album „Be Water“, put together by TCM veterans The Tidal Sleep. The name of the EP hints at the origin of the songs and the production is as awesome as with the previous release! So it's all just compiled scraps? If you listen closely you will notice that the songs are neither redundant nor do they represent a „Be Water 2“. While the album was already diverse, especially in regards to vocals, The Tidal Sleep are in peak form when it comes to songwriting – it includes many ideas that possibly would have cluttered the album with these additional tracks. Yet as a one-sided 12“ they turn out to be an absolute joy! There are the familiar carpets of sound The Tidal Sleep are known for, plus they manage to facilitate strong and catchy vocal parts, in an even more targeted fashion than on the album. Those who enjoyed the last Touché Amoré album should definitely not miss out on this. But there are new things to explore for everyone: the song „Cures“ is so fast and dynamic that it would have Deafhaven green with envy! The next album must provide many more of such excursions! „Be Kind“ is proof that the band is able to enrich their own sound in manifold ways without distorting it. It is a record that is absolutely worthy of the release number TCM100!

“Be Kind” is the most recent output by The Tidal Sleep from Germany. The four songs on this one-sided 12” were recorded during the sessions for their latest full length LP, but upon listening it becomes clear that The Tidal Sleep’s trademark post-hardcore sound has been further expanded to a level that easily gives these tracks the power to stand for their own. Filled to the brim with interesting songwriting ideas beyond the beaten paths and incorporating an array of elements that range from furious blast-beat drumming to introspective clean singing and atmospheric intricacy, “Be Kind” is a manifest of The Tidal Sleep’s status as a fan favorite that will appeal to anyone who is into emotive (Post-)Hardcore in the vein of Touché Amoré, At The Drive-In or Birds in Row. Das einhundertste Release auf This Charming Man! Mit vier Songs aus den Sessions zur im letzten Jahr erschienenen „Be Water“ LP kommen die TCM-Urgesteine The Tidal Sleep um die Ecke. Die Herkunft der Songs deutet der Name der EP an, und natürlich ist die Produktion genauso dick wie auf dem vorherigen Langspieler! Also, eine Ladung von der Resterampe oder was? Wer sich das Teil genauer anhört wird schnell feststellen, dass die Songs hier weder unnötig sind noch lediglich ein „Be Water 2“ darstellen.

Wo schon die LP gerade vocal-technisch einiges an Abwechslung zu bieten wusste, sind The Tidal Sleep hier in Sachen Songwriting in absoluter Topform unterwegs – es stecken so viele Ideen drin, dass das Album sehr wahrscheinlich zu überladen gewesen wäre mit diesen Tracks zusätzlich an Bord. In dieser Form als einseitige 12“ allerdings eine absolute Freude! Es gibt die gewohnt geilen Tidal Sleep Soundteppiche, aber noch zielgerichteter als auf der LP schaffen es die Jungs hier, auch mal Platz zu machen für richtig starke und eingängige Gesangsparts. Wer das zum Beispiel an der letzten Touché Amoré LP gut fand, für den ist das hier Pflichtprogramm. Aber auch für alle anderen gibt es Neues zu entdecken: auf „Cures“ zum Beispiel geht es anfänglich derart rasend zu, dass Deafheaven neidisch wären auf dieses Geföhne! Von Ausflügen dieser Art darf es auf dem nächsten Album bitte noch eine ganze Menge mehr geben. Denn „Be Kind“ ist der Beweis, dass die Band ihren eigenen Sound auf unglaublich verschiedene Arten anreichern kann ohne ihn zu verfälschen, und der Nummer TCM100 absolut würdig!

"Wir sind super glücklich was aus dieser EP geworden ist. 'Be Water' wäre zu überladen gewesen wenn die Songs auch noch darauf gelandet wären. Unser Freund Dimi Conidas hat im Mix nochmal ne Schippe Power draufgelegt, und das Artwork von unserem Gitarristen Matthias ist meiner Meinung nach der absolute Wahnsinn! Die EP ist aber auch eine Art Abschluss eines Themas. Wir haben gesehen was für uns funktioniert, und was wir gerne noch probiern möchten.
