SYRICTUS is the death metal brainchild of Erik Stenglein (Northless, Ara). Composed, performed, and produced entirely by Stenglein, the sound recalls the more avant—yet grooving—death metal stylings of his primary influences, Gorguts and Morbid Angel, but with an obvious nod to modern technical death masters, such as Spawn Of Possession.
Stenglein was motivated thematically by his personal interests in extraterrestrials, cryptids, conspiracy theories, the occult, the supernatural, and by an unflinching desire for total disclosure from all world governments concerning their knowledge of the aforementioned. These interests later manifested as sounds contained on the project's self-titled EP, released by Night Rhythms Recordings, and with superior mastering by James Plotkin (OLD, Khanate) and art by the illustrious Paul Jeffrey.
Now in 2019, SYRICTUS will release the debut full-length titled Anticosmia, a blurring yet multifaceted foray into the expanded universe of death metal themes, recalling Stenglein’s interests in cryptids, extraterrestrials and the occult, all while containing unexplored discussions of the entropic decay of the universe.
Anticosmia was recorded at Cosmic/Endless Studios by Stenglein, while the album was mixed and mastered by William Jay Smith. The album's otherworldly cover art was created by Ardha Lepa.
