Since the great successes of Kyuss and Queens Of The Stone Age, stoner rock has become a firmly established genre. The four members of Clutch, from the small town of Germantown in Maryland, have been celebrating it since 1990. They started out with a very hard, uncompromising sound that earned them comparisons to bands like Helmet. Clutch still likes to play wild tempo changes, but their version of stoner rock has become a bit more varied over the years. The metallic riffs now alternate with bluesy and jazzy elements.
