20 Rock + Metal Bands Who Reunited in 2025 - Loudwire

Was 2025 the year of the rock and metal reunion? It certainly seems as though that was the case as some of the biggest names in heavier music managed to set aside past issues and find their way back to the stage or the studio over the past year.

Arguably the biggest reunion of them all was just a one-off, but oh what a show the original four members of Black Sabbath gave us at Back to the Beginning in July. The all-star concert found rock and metal's elite paying respects to Ozzy, Tony, Geezer and Bill — metal's founding fathers — who finally made it right and closed the book by performing together onstage one final time in the town where they created it all.

This was also the year that we saw the reunion we thought might never happen (and even wondered if it would after they announced their reunion plans). We're talking about Oasis. The often combative Gallagher brothers finally made nice for the love of fans everywhere and put on a massive world tour that channeled all the great '90s Brit rock vibes we once loved and still do. With a "Hello," we were all hooked once more.

This year also gave us lots to look forward to in 2026. Rush's two remaining living members Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson deciding to re-embrace their legacy after the 2020 death of Neil Peart and return to the road again to play the music they and all the fans love.

Those are just some of the big reunions that were the talk of 2025, with plenty more still to discuss. Some acts just reunited for one show, others put on full tours and we saw some classic lineups get back together.

Black Sabbath

It was brief, but boy was it memorable. Black Sabbath put on the concert of a lifetime as a who's who of rock and metal turned out to salute the metal legends' legacy at July's Back to the Beginning concert.

The original foursome of Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Bill Ward got to say their proper farewell after Ward had previously bowed out of their farewell tour and album over an alleged contract dispute.

Ozzy joined his longtime bandmates for a four-song set that put the exclamation point on a highly emotional day. Just a few weeks after the concert, Ozzy died at the age of 76. But not before adding the final chapter to his long, distinguished legacy.

Brand New

One of the more surprising reunions started to take shape in March 2025 as Brand New initially announced three reunion performances.

The indie rock outfit had amassed an impressive catalog during the first two decade of the 21st century, but announced they loudwireloudwire likely be breaking up in 2018 during an October 2017 performance. A month later, singer Jesse Lacey faced multiple sexual misconduct allegations. After apologizing for his behavior and actions, the band then went silent and remained so until late 2024.

They tested the waters with a private show in December 2024, before announcing their reunion performances for March 2025. A larger tour followed, but Lacey also faced some new grooming allegations upon the band's return.

Alice Cooper (Original Group)

He's been a solo artist for so long, people sometimes forget that Alice Cooper was once considered a group led by the titular singer. But back in April, Alice Cooper — the group, not the solo artist — announced their first new album in over 50 years.

The Revenge of Alice Cooper featured all four living members of the original group, with guitarist Michael Bruce, bassist Dennis Dunaway and drummer Neal Smith reuniting with the shock rocker. The album also included a special guest appearance by the late guitarist Glen Buxton, who died in 1997 on the song "What Happened to You."

"It was very much like this was our next album after [1973's] Muscle of Love. Isn't that funny after 50 years? All of a sudden it just falls into place," Cooper told Billboard.

The original lineup split after 1973's Billion Dollar Babies, with Cooper retaining the name as he furthered his own career.
