“Bloodbath” is about the legendary Ecsedi Báthory Erzsébet aka Elizabeth Bathory aka the most infamous female killer ever documented. It is hard to discern what is fact and what is fiction but one thing can be concluded: She definitely was not a kind woman, many young women disappeared and the stories of her are grim.
Unfortunately, the method of extracting confessions for the trial at that time, was through severe torture and written accounts vary from person to person, so we can’t know all the details for sure.
The lyrics are written from her point of view with the attitude of total indifference and that she only did what was in her right as a highborn ruler who was in fact richer than the king himself.
