Second single off Noël Wells' debut album coming Spring 2019

NOËL WELLS
(MASTER OF NONE, SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE, MR. ROOSEVELT)

RELEASES NEW SINGLE FROM FORTHCOMING 2019 DEBUT ALBUM

“STAR” NOW STREAMING ON STEREOGUM AND YOUTUBE

"‘Star’ is a lovely lope that finds Wells’ vocals backed by brushed drums, artfully unspooling
guitar lines, weepy pedal steel, and a number of
other tasteful flourishes.” – Stereogum

“Blissfully honest. The talented comedian, actress, writer and filmmaker shows
she is clearly unstoppable.” – Consequence of Sound

“On ‘Sunrise’, she channels confusion and frustration, singing of a backward, mixed-up world,
but also keeping the mood chill with airy harmonies and acoustic guitar. Wells has conquered comedy and taken over film. Now, she's coming for music.” – NYLON

“Her wistful sound will likely attract comparisons to She & Him or maybe even Norah Jones’ approachable smolder, but there’s something darker in Wells’ “Sunrise.” It’s not a Sunday
morning sleeper; it’s a wake-up call.” – Paste

Actress, writer, filmmaker and comedian Noël Wells is excited to present her new single, “Star,” the second track to be lifted from her forthcoming, Spring 2019 debut album. “Star” follows the release of the dreamy “Sunrise” and is a love song detailing the complicated layers of companionship and its many potential obstacles. “Beyond a love song about two lovers, ‘Star’ also serves as a cheeky lullaby about innocence, fame, and fate,” Wells says. “It is a poem about desiring freedom and a call for a romantic rebellion against the forces that try and separate us from ourselves, each other, our dreams, and our natural state of love.”

After spending a season on Saturday Night Live, appearing as the love interest on Master of None, and writing, directing, and starring in the award winning indie feature Mr. Roosevelt,Noël Wells wasn’t satisfied creatively. So in 2016, after experiencing career upsets, heartbreak, and the psychological aftermath of the election, she went from listening to music to writing music. She bought an acoustic guitar and started taking lessons, and she soon found comfort in the songs that were now pouring out of her.

From there, she began to work closely with producer Chris Nelson and engineer Branden Stroup who turned her melancholic folk tunes with flashes of dark humor into vibrant and catchy songs. “I honestly thought I was going to make an album of moody ‘Sad Girl’ songs,” she says. “And while the songs still retain that, now they’re also really fun. You can listen and cry and smash shit or dance to them and have sex…” The songs range from stories about love, loss, desire for autonomy and existential anxiety to her relationship around being a woman in today’s world.

“At the end of the day, I didn’t want to bum people out,”
she continues. “But I do want them to know all the heavy stuff I see and feel, and also that I have a lot of hope that it’s going to be alright.”

Stay tuned for more information, news and music from Wells’ forthcoming debut in the coming weeks and months.
