The Ugly Kings - Of Sins (2015) (Full Album)

Imagem
The hardscrabble geography of Australia is not for the faint of heart. On one side you have seas filled with swimming Cadillac’s with razors for teeth, the other is barren land full of jackals and the last of the tribesman, the cities are over flowing and the mentality is full-on scrum. But from this rugby crazy and lager fueled country comes some of the fiercest bar bands to ever blaze a path across the global strata. AC/DC, Midnight Oil, Rose Tattoo, The Saints and Nick Cave all cut their teeth on Perth and Sydney outlier pubs with the harshest critics armed with beer bottles and cycle chains if the set wasn’t up to snuff. It’s mean, it’s nasty, it’s a blood sport, but it’s also the breeding ground to make you bullet proof. And if history is any indication then Melbourne’s The Ugly Kings are Kevlar-coated and ready for incoming. Their latest album may sound familiar from the instant the needle is dropped since it’s a healthy dose of all those great Aussie assets: thick, groove...

Coogans Bluff - Flying To The Stars (2016) (New Full Album)

Imagem
Come fly with me! That seems to be the invitation German band Coogans Bluff are issuing. And no matter what your mother told you, you should accept it if you like blues rock mixed with a certain je ne sais quoi. “Coogan’s Bluff” is the title of one of those films that never stop puzzling you, no matter how old you get. Clint Eastwood plays a laconic, alcoholic Arizona cop who needs to find his man. It has all the right ingredients. Rolling Stone magazine paid hommage by describing the band as a “blend of 60s/70s-Hardrock, Hippie-Funk and some kind of Captain Beefheartesque Blues deconstruction”. Some call it “Retro” but it is hard to find many others combining Krautrock, Progressive and even Space-, Psychedelic-, Stoner- and Bluesrock in such an unusual way. Their songs are bulky as they are catchy and the groove leaves enough space for melodies and details to unfold. And now here is “Flying To The Stars”. An unintentional concept album. Individually written song parts seemed to...

All three members meet during shows with their respective bands and decided to gather forces to develop each others compositions. Until early 2016 they kept composing in the search of their old school psych rock dynamic. From January 2016 with...

Bask - Ramble Beyond (2017) (New Full Album)

Imagem
Bask may very well be next in line for the Southern Metal Throne. On their Bandcamp page, the Asheville, NC quartet says they “want rhythm heard for miles, melodies remembered for weeks and an honesty and sincerity felt to your bones.” Well, mission accomplished, fellas: Ramble Beyond, Bask’s sophomore effort, is an aural delight, a massive, filmic, soulful record that offers a truly transportive experience. In order to pinpoint what makes Bask's metal so hauntingly beautiful, it might be dutiful to stare into the vast reaches of their influences. Whether it’s the cathartic nature of the relentless breakdowns that sucks you in, or the level of charisma and passion they put into every emotive note, it’s undeniably southern metal. The Asheville-based quartet birthed a sound early on that skillfully mixed influences from stadium rock, metal, southern rock, Americana, progressive rock with stoner rock escapades. Their debut album, American Hollow, was a 6-track introduction to t...

The Fur - The Fur (2014) (Full Album)

Imagem
The Fur is an instrumental trio of space cadets from Belgium. Heavily influenced by the acid-ridden sixties and the heavy seventies, The Fur brings a show that takes the audience back to a time where music was a way of escaping. It's not about spreading a message, it's about spreading love, harmony and peace with sound, hence why it's instrumental. What you may expect from a show of The Fur you ask? Big vintage amps, orignal sound, psychedelic visuals and 3 dudes having the time of their life. The Fur has invested a lot of time in fine-tuning their gear and doing everything DIY-style to a point where The Fur handprinted their merch and built their own amps. Debut album of the spacefuzzers The Fur, released in 2014. Everything was recorded DIY-style at the cinéPalace club in Kortrijk. It's seismic. It's a trip. It's beautiful. It's Neil Young's Dead Man soundtrack reimagined by less miserable and angry dudes. It's a warm hug of riffs that rattl...

Space Raptor - Hyperion (2016) (Full Album)

Imagem
As much as I venture across Europe's borders, my attention always ends up falling irreversibly into a gravitational spiral that links me to its epicenter: Germany. This is where most of the European bands linked to the Heavy Psych Scene are based and with the constant inclusion of new German bands, its predominance does not seem to slow down. This time the Space Raptor quartet with their debut "Hyperion" comes naturally to the list of unforgettable albums of 2016 to all devout pilgrims of Heavy Psych Rock. These four young musicians present us with their powerful sound able to break down the walls of our conscience and throw us Cosmos inside. Their energetic Heavy Psych calibrated by galloping Hard Rock and tempered by the Post Rock of astral nature has the gift of captivating us and enveloping us in a pure and pleasurable manifestation of total surrender to the enigmatic domains of Hyperion.  The two guitars intertwine in a dazzling and hypnotic exploration where ...
