PUBLIC IMAGE Ltd. TILL TIME TO ROCK! Few artists have challenged the boundaries of rock music quite like John Lydon. After changing the face of music as Johnny Rotten in the Sex Pistols, he refused to simply repeat himself. Instead, he formed Public Image Ltd – P.i.L and headed straight into completely new territory.
Founded in London in 1978, Public Image Ltd became one of the most influential bands to emerge from the post-punk era. Taking elements of punk, dub, experimental music, dance, noise and uncompromising rock, PiL created a sound that was unmistakably their own.
Their groundbreaking early records, including First Issue and the legendary Metal Box, helped redefine what a rock band could sound like. Songs such as “Public Image,” “Death Disco,” “Flowers of Romance,” “This Is Not a Love Song” and “Rise” have become classics, while generations of alternative and independent musicians have cited PiL as a major influence. And at the centre of it all remains the unmistakable John Lydon – provocative, unpredictable and completely impossible to ignore. More than four decades after PiL first appeared, he still refuses to follow anybody else''s rules.
This isn''t nostalgia. This isn''t punk-by-numbers. This is one of British music''s great originals.
