Hot Milk are fronted by Hannah Lee and Jim Shaw, two stalwarts of Manchester’s revitalized music scene. They swiped right on each other a couple years back, but soon found that their true connection was a musical one. In 2019, their debut EP ‘Are You Alive?’ arrived flush with the bombast of glam rock, flawless production of mid 00s pop punk, and vulnerable lyrics about mental health and social issues. Because they were such champions of Manchester’s formidable scene (there’s a rumor they inhabited a Gallagher bro’s apartment), Jim and Han received tons of support from the get go. BBC happily spun their mascara-tinged power pop. You Me At Six brought them on tour. “J does everything in this band,” Han recently praised her bandmate. Love the positive vibes, but Lee shouldn’t sell herself short: she boasts shades of Joan Jett stage presence and a twinkle of Hayley Williams’ vocal prowess. Fans of Bring Me The Horizon and Paramore will def like what they see in these DSCVR performances, both tracks from their upcoming debut, ‘A CALL TO THE VOID.’ If they sound extra tight it’s because they’ve been touring nonstop the last few years, hitting festival stages and supporting the likes of Pale Waves and blackbear. Plus they have their own headline tour this fall, and plenty more festival dates this summer. See you in the mosh pit.
