DAVE FIDLER has unveiled a touching new video for current single: ‘Skylark’.

Elegantly weaving narratives that span generations and relations, the stirring sounds and visuals of the ‘Skylark’ video are very much at the essence of what Dave Fidler’s vivid songwriting world.

Directed and filmed by Pete Wall, the video finds the Mancunian singer-songwriter retracing his childhood steps in the company of his very own next of kin: Nico. Here, Dave and his ebullient daughter climb Werneth Low together, something of an old haunt that will forever find itself rooted in the landscapes of the Pennines and Fidler’s own formative years.

As a song, ’Skylark’ initially took flight in 2018 during Fidler’s ambitious song-a-day challenge session, of which his daughter Nico admirably contributed-to. As such, the video pays loving tribute to her, with the song itself also projecting a message of hope and optimism indebted to the work of another inspirational character in Fidler’s life. As he explains here:

“‘Skylark’ is about singing when things are going well but also singing when things aren’t going so well. At the end of the song I pay reference to a friend of mine Micah Purnell,  a Manchester based artist and designer, who posts unbranded thought provoking billboards throughout the city. He’s done this for years and they always seem to have an underlying message of positivity - the first billboard he posted was about looking up to the sky each day which I have referenced in this song.”

Making for something of a family affair, the ‘Skylark’ video also features an animation of the delicate avian which inspires its title, elegantly animated here by the hand of Dave’s own brother: Andy Fidler. A sought after animator in his own right, Andy has frequently produced animations for the likes BBC.

‘Skylark’ was recorded at The Fuse in Manchester, the studio also featured in this latest video and the birthplace of Fidler’s upcoming album: ‘Songs from Aurora’, which will be released this Spring via 27 27 Records.

Blending intimately-told, warmly-inviting stories with arrangements of a hushed majesty, fans of Crosby, Still & Nash, Nick Drake and Dylan will find much to enjoy on ‘Songs From Aurora’. From the gently epic country-tinged opener 'On The Line’ to the lilting harmonica-led lullaby of ‘Eternal Road'; the bluesy railroad reminisces of ‘Will I Ever Learn?’ to the pure harmonies and swelling folk pop of “Skylark” and “Breeze”, Fidler’s latest sees the artist step-up to deliver a masterclass in pared-back and pure songwriting.

Frequently found to be touring with kindred spirit and long-time supporter John Bramwell of I Am Kloot (of whom Fidler has shared his studio with on occasion), Fidler now looks forward to embarking on his first solo headline tour of the USA and Europe - full dates and details below.
